John
Tejada, M-Powered
Renowned techno recording artist John Tejada has joined the ranks
of the M-Powered. Using M-Audio’s Oxygen8 keyboard to control
Ableton Live in live concert settings, Tejada pushes the limits
of the Drum and Bass genre with every performance.
“Live is the first program that lets me perform the way I
want to,” attests Tejada, whose credits include dozens of
singles, remixes, and work in television and film. Known for crafting
his own unique brand of subtle, musical techno, his works range
from low-key, spacious arrangements to pulsating, densely layered
tracks well suited for DJs.
“With Live there is so much potential,” Tejada continues.
“I can either perform songs the way they were originally written,
or take them to a completely different place I never thought of
before. I come up with brand new ideas right there in front of an
audience and can execute them in total confidence. Plus, using the
Oxygen8 with Live makes the experience of playing with a laptop
much more interesting to the audience.”
Tejada’s background in classical music easily gave way to
the new inspiration he found in the fledgling electronic music scene
at the age of 16. Inspired by progenitors such as Afrika Bambaata
and Mantronix, Tejada traveled to Detroit and Europe in order to
land record deals with A13, Metroplex, R&S, and Seventh City.
In 1996, Tejada established his own imprint, the LA-based Palette,
which has enjoyed six years of steady growth and recognition. He
recently performed at international electronic music festivals in
Barcelona and Detroit, and continues to collaborate with some of
the most innovative artists in electronic and hip-hop music.
