Exporting Windows Media Video Files with ArKaos VJ

In Windows, ArKaos VJ 3.0 allows you to export your video compositions in the Windows Media Video (.wmv) video format, as well as QuickTime video formats.

The basics:

Microsoft Windows Media Video is a new video format that has many advantages over existing formats:

· Files are typically only half the size of MPEG-4 files of comparable quality
· Facilitates multi-channel audio streams (up to 7.1)
· Codecs provide improved performance on next-generation video cards
· Codecs are adapted for the web diffusion
· Very low to very high video quality range

How to export a .wmv file starting from a recording:

1. Open the Event Recorder:



2. Choose your audio file:
The .wmv video format allows you to incorporate multi-channel audio files, like the well known 5.1 or even 7.1 audio formats.



The audio stream you just selected will be incorporated in your final .wmv video file, with the same number of channels.

3. Select the "Windows Media Video" export format:





4. Set up your rendering properties:



5. Now, we have to select the video rendering format:





Notice that in our example, we selected a 5.1 .wma audio file so the final .wmv file will also be 5.1.

6. Finally, make your video file:

Tips and Tricks:

You can listen to the multi-channel format while playing a live recording or an exported video from ArKaos only if you audio hardware (i.e. sound card) is able to; else a software-fallback will automatically be done to fit your audio hardware-capabilities (for example, 5.1 channels will be mixed together in an stereo audio stream if your card only support 2 channels).
In order to take full advantage of multi-channel audio while playing your live recordings, you have to update your system to DirectX version 9.0.
In order to take the full advantages of "Windows Media Video" export capabilities in ArKaos VJ 3.0, you must update your Windows system to Windows Media Player version 9.0
