Propellerhead Reason: Effectively Quantizing
Your Sequences
When your sequence isn’t as tight as you would like, a common
response is to quantize it. However, this often causes your sequence
to lose its entire groove. The solution is to apply the rhythm of
a drum loop or any other element to the other parts in your sequence.
Select the loop from which you’d like to grab the groove,
then right-click (or if you’re using a Mac, option-click)
to select “Get User Groove.” Your quantize value will
change to “User.” Now you can quantize other loops to
that groove. Select the other parts you’d like to quantize,
set a quantize amount (75% is a good place to start) and click the
“Quantize” button. Experiment with different loops and
quantize amount values until the various components sound the way
you want them to.
