Artist Spotlight: Tom Scott
Though legendary saxophonist Tom Scott titled his newly released
album “New Found Freedom,” his busy schedule would lead
one to believe that he finds free time in short supply these days.
Scott can be seen in the much-anticipated “Standing in the
Shadows of Motown,” a feature-length documentary about a group
of virtually unknown musicians who were brought together by record
mogul Berry Gordy to play on the great Motown hits of the 1960s.
Scott duets with Gerald Levert on “Shotgun” and appears
as himself throughout the film, which is currently playing in theaters
nationwide.
The globetrotting Scott recently traveled to Colorado to perform
on the ABC special, “Christmas in Aspen,” before jetting
off to London to play with Eric Clapton’s band at the George
Harrison tribute concert. He also managed to find the time to sit
down with Daniel Keller of Performing Songwriter for an
in-depth interview, which was published in the magazine’s
December issue.
Scott continues to work with NYPD’s Daniel Rodriguez (a.k.a.
The Singing Policeman) and is currently producing a number of other
albums. In his home studio and on the road, Scott uses M-Audio’s
Quattro, Omni i/o, Studiophile SP-5B reference monitors, CO3, and
Reason.
