From October 10-13, 2003, M-Audio appeared at the AES tradeshow
in New York to showcase a variety of exciting new products, including
Ableton Live 3, ArKaos VJ 3.0, M-Audio’s Luna and Solaris
microphones, FireWire 410, OmniStudio USB, and Studiophile LX4
expandable monitoring system. Focusing the Company’s AES
presence squarely on in-depth training and product demonstrations,
M-Audio’s conference room contained a variety of hands-on
workstations manned by product specialists. A Microphone Testing
Center provided an easy and revealing way to audition the Luna
and Solaris microphones with M-Audio’s award-winning Tampa
and DMP3 preamps. Ableton co-founder Robert Henke and other Ableton
experts were also on hand to demonstrate how Live 3 takes the
concept of elastic audio to revolutionary new heights. (One demonstrator
even created an engaging sound from white noise!)
But the AES show wasn’t just
about M-Audio’s serious new contributions to the M.I. world;
there was plenty of fun to be had by all. On the first night of
AES, M-Audio and Ableton co-sponsored a wildly popular Live 3
kickoff party at New York’s famed Glass Lounge, where Henke
(a.k.a. monolake) dazzled attendees with a musical performance
on a laptop running Live 3. Visual artists also demonstrated the
increased functionality of VJ 3.0, lending a dynamic backdrop
to Henke’s ethereal minimalist techno.
Throughout the show, M-Audio’s
space was continuously packed with notable artists from New York
and beyond, including Duncan Sheik (solo recording artist), Gerry
Leonard (guitarist; David Bowie), and Terry Howard (engineer;
Ray Charles), in addition to a multitude of media representatives.
