M-Audio and Sitka Fine Arts Camp Promote
Music Education
Founded
in 1973, the Sitka Fine Arts Camp in Sitka, Alaska has helped
thousands of students grow in skill and appreciation of the arts
by providing a variety of intensive classes in six different disciplines.
With renowned instructors who are professionally active in the
fields that they teach, the Sitka Fine Arts Camp offers a variety
of courses in Music, Technology, Dance, Theater, Creative Writing
and Visual Arts. For the 2003 Summer Session, the Camp placed
M-Audio’s Radium61 keyboard controllers and copies of Propellerhead
Reason 2.5 inside the music creation classrooms, putting the tools
of today’s audio professionals in the hands of tomorrow’s
creative geniuses.
During the fall, winter and spring,
Sitka instructor Simon Amarasingham works as an independent composer
and game sound designer at dSonic Audio. During the summer, Amarasingham
heads north to teach one of the Camp’s most popular classes,
“Composition, Sound and Technology.” The class teaches
students how to build a soundtrack by fitting music to film images—all
with the use of a computer. Amarasingham also focuses on teaching
how to record, edit, and mix audio, and how to create sound effects.
Reason,
praised by many for its depth and versatility, also proves to
be an excellent tool for teaching beginners the precepts of composition
and music creation. Controlled by M-Audio’s Radium61 keyboard
controllers replete with knobs and faders, learning Reason is
not only fun—it truly prepares students for the experiences
they will have in today’s professional studio environments.
"It is exciting to see the
unbounded creativity of the students when using professional sound
design equipment like Reason and and M-audio's Radium keyboards,”
says Roger Schmidt, Director, Sitka Fine Arts Camp. “Giving
young students the tools and resources to work as creative musicians
ensures the future of music.”
